My first foray into mixed media was exploring how to create an art journal. Maintaining an art journal will be critical to my growth as an artist and a person, and will give me a chance to document my time and show me the evolution of my style and techniques. So today it begins with the cover of my new journal (aka a converted sketchbook).

This piece will be given to my mom for Christmas – a lovely mixed media painting of her, my angel!

Inspired by Kelly Rae Roberts’ book “Taking Flight: Inspiration & Techniques to give your Creative Spirit Wings“. The work above is definitely Kelly’s style but I think I adapted it to my own pretty well.

This was kind of like a quick sketch to play with acrylic. Didn’t turn out too exciting but it’s cute

As I begin this new artistic path, it made sense for me to document where I’m starting from. Therefore, my first piece is a painting of myself. Not a bad first effort, I think
